IT’S CARING

Big news from MDOT & MVA

Introducing — The Butterfly
As of October 1, Maryland has begun offering a new option on state-issued driver’s licenses, ID cards, and moped permits: a small butterfly emblem that indicates the cardholder has a hidden (non‑apparent) disability such as autism, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or other communication or sensory‑processing challenges.
The change is part of legislation known as Eric’s ID Law, named after 20‑year‑old Eric Carpenter‑Grantham, who has high‑functioning autism and proposed the idea to help reduce dangerous misunderstandings during encounters with law enforcement.
Benefits For Veterans
In a bid to make veterans’ benefits more accessible, the Maryland Department of Transportation and MVA, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families, officially opened a Veterans Service Office inside the Annapolis and Waldorf MVA branches. These are now among the 8 total Veterans Services Offices statewide committed to serving those who served us!
As part of the MVA's One-Stop Shop, we're here to make it easier for veterans, service members, and their families to access the support and services they deserve — all in one place.
