IN MEMORIUM

Jack Fitzgerald
September 27th , 1935 — April 9th, 2025
We are joined in mourning the passing of a truly great man. Sadly, Jack Fitzgerald, founder of Fitzgerald Auto Malls, passed two days ago on Tuesday, April 8th. Jack was known and respected by many, and his legacy will live on through his company and all of the people he inspired through his life.
Official Statement from Fitzgerald Auto Malls
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our founder, Jack Fitzgerald, on April 8, 2025.
Jack was more than the visionary behind Fitzgerald Auto Mall—he was a champion for fairness, a tireless advocate for customers, and a true believer in doing business the right way. From launching the “FitzWay” to pioneering car seat safety programs and leading us into 100% employee ownership, Jack’s impact reached far beyond the showroom floor.
He built a legacy rooted in honesty, compassion, and care for others. His passion, humor, and heart will never be forgotten—and his influence will live on in every employee-owner, every customer, and every family whose life he touched.
Thank you, Jack.
You built something truly special.
And we’ll make sure the world never forgets it.
That’s the #FitzWay

IT’S THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The 2025 Maryland General Assembly has officially ended and everything is in its final place (for now).
Here are all of our victories
We successfully defeated the Trade-In Difference Tax Credit Repeal, which would have not allowed customers trading in a vehicle to use the value of their trade-in toward reducing the taxes paid on their new vehicle. This was a huge victory that we all fought for together.
Clean Cars II will NOT be enforced until model year 2029 as opposed to the planned 2026 enforcement. This is a tremendous burden off of dealers’ backs, as the proposed plan was to require MD dealers’ sales to consist of 43% electric vehicles and limit the distribution of non-EV vehicles to MD in 2026.
The vehicle excise tax will be increased to 6.5% starting 6/1/25. This is lower, however, than the original 6.8% that the governor initially proposed.
The new rental car tax was successfully diverted from MD dealers by the MADA on the last day of session.
IT’S TARIFFS
Dramatic movement on the tariff front — President Trump has officially imposed a 125% tariff on China while “pausing” tariffs on other countries. This pause means that for 90 days, countries (excluding China) will face a discounted “10% baseline tariff” on their exported goods.
“In the meantime there will be a 90 day pause on the reciprocal tariffs as these negotiations are ongoing, and the tariff level will be brought down to a universal 10% tariff.”
— White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt
