The state of Maryland has fallen far behind our neighbors by continuing to require all vehicles to display a redundant, front license plate. Fixing a license plate to the front of modern vehicles not only requires unnecessary drilling in the bumper of a brand new car, but can compromise important safety technology such as automatic braking and proximity sensors. As vehicles evolve and become more safe, so should the laws surrounding them.
22 states throughout the country have already dropped the front plate, and in over 40 years, no state has switched back. It is time we join the movement and make Maryland a One Plate State.
